Small Bathroom IdeasHello and welcome to my small bathroom ideas website. Coming up with good ideas for a small bathroom can be a tricky endeavor so I hope you will find some good tips and tricks here to help you weather your just designing a new small bathroom or remodeling an old one.

You may think it is hard to implement style and creativity in to a small bathroom space but with a bit of time and thought any space limitations can easily be overcome.

Many houses built in the 70′s and 80′s feature bathrooms that are small, almost as though the bathroom was an afterthought. It wasn’t until the 90′s that house designer began to understand that nice sized bathrooms were important for home owners.

Here are few quick ideas on what to do with a small bathroom space. We will expand on these ideas in later posts.

  1. Use Glass. By installing a glass shower you can make the room feel bigger because you will be able to see right through to the other side and keep that sense of space. Also by opening up the window(s) in the room and maybe adding a skylight will give the room a more open feel. Another trick you can use is by adding more mirrors to the room to make it appear bigger.
  2. Placing the sink on the wall and avoiding having a big sink unit in the room can go a long way to making a room feel less cluttered and small. You will need some storage space though otherwise there sink area will become cluttered with toiletries.
  3. The toilet. These days you can find toilets that are designed for a smaller sized room. They are usually a little harder to source though and will be more expensive.
  4. Bathtubs and showers. Again, these days you can get showers and tubs that are designed for a smaller space but you can probably forget about having that jacuzzi tub if you do opt for something smaller than a standard size. You could opt for a bath though that is higher and has a deeper feel to it.
  5. Paint and other tricks. White and light colored paints can make a room feel bigger and more airy. If you installing shelving you should make sure that you can see through to the wall to help keep a sense of space.

Oct 13th 2010 Small Bathroom Sinks

If you have a small bathroom and are struggling to squeeze eveything in to the room then you should consider a small bathroom sink unit. You can still make your bathroom look elegant and stylish even if the room is smaller than average.

These days there are a number of options for small bathroom sinks that can be purchased through a manufacturer who are well aware of the number of smaller bathrooms out there. Once such good choice could be a corner sink which can easily be installed in any of the four corners of the room. These corner sinks are take up less space than a conventional sink and they generally are cheaper than standard sinks. They alse free up the rest of the room then so you can install your bath and/or shower.

The small corner bathroom sinks come in a number of color and materials and designs include a corner pedestal sink or a small wall mounted sink. Make sure that if you wall mount the sink that you place it at a good height for a variety of users who will use it in your family. One good thing about purchasing a smaller sink is that the fixtures will still work correctly with the bigger sink plumbing.

I would recommend seeking out a good small bathroom sink at your local homeware store where you will probably find many good options there. You should take a look at models by Ellisse which has been specially designed to fit in to a smaller bathroom. Bates and Bates also make custom made small sinks that can be designed to fit your own bathroom.

Oct 13th 2010 Small Bathroom Floorplans

You really do need to have a good floorplan when it comes to designing for a small bathroom. You need to make the space look airy but at the same time have all the same features you would expect in a bathroom that is of a much bigger size. It is important ot plan out every stage of a small bathroom design and leave nothing to chance so you can go in to the actual remodeling stage with confidence.

The first thing you should do is taker accurate measurements for every part of your bathroom, make sure you spend a bit of time doing this. Then you need to get some pieces of graph paper and draw out the floorplan of your bathroom to scale. Please don’t skip on this step as it is important to coming up with the ideal design for your small bathroom. You will come up with new ideas just by playing around with your design on paper and will avoid future problems.

One the graph paper put in any fixtures that are in the bathroom that can’t be removed such as doors and windows and the toilet, sink etc if you aren’t going to move them to other locations in the room. If you are looking to add new fixture in the room or move things around them drawn them out on your floorplan now.

If you are starting with a brand new room with no fixtures yet then you have a much easier task ahead of you. Drawn out where you want your fixtures and include things like where you want lights and switches to go and see if it all work correctly.

Once you have a good plan drawn up I would recommended going to some bathroom design store and talking to the designer there. Take your plans with you and talk to them in detail about what you wish to do with the room. They will have the experience and insight to see flaws in your plan and help you with some trick and tips that may make the room even better.

Many bathroom design stores will input your design in to a computer and they will be able to move the fixtures around in the program very quickly. They will ask you what your budget is and source out fixtures and materials that fit within your budget.

If you don’t wish to approach a bathroom designer you could purchase a room design program that you can use yourself at home and input your room dimensions and play with the fixtures and design ideas yourself.

Coming up with a good small bathroom floorplan yourself isn’t that hard if you take some time to draw up a good scale drawing and either employ the services of a bathroom designer or purchase a room design program yourself.

Oct 13th 2010 Small Bathroom Design Ideas

If you are working with a small bathroom then coming up with good design ideas is more important than ever. You need to create the idea or illusion of space. One of the more popular ways to create an illusion of space in a small bathroom is through the use of vanities, mirrors and good lighting. By using correct sized fixtures for the room and keeping good spacing between them you can make a smaller bathroom just as usable as a much larger one.

Vanities For A Small Bathroom – The best way to utilize a small bathroom vanity is to buy and install one that is wall mounted. Try to find a vanity that has lots of storage space below it including drawers. This will mean you can take out those towel racks that are using up space on your walls and and simply place your towels in the drawers instead. You could also opt for a corner vanity.

If you really want a floor standing vanity you should go for a small one or a small pedestal sink. If you go with either of these options that you should add recessed shelving to make up for the lost storage spaceand help keep a clean look in your bathroom.

Mirrors For A Small Bathroom. Good mirror placement will make your small bathroom appear more spacious. By correctly using mirrors in the room you can give your room more depth and width. One good way to do this is to use a very large mirror over the vanity. This will will reflect much of the room behind the mirror giving a sense of space. You also place two mirrors on opposite walls and this will make the room appear like it doesn’t end. Also, if you have a shower in the room you could think about adding a mirrored door to it.

Lightening For A Small Bathroom.  Good lighting can be achieved through the use of good window light and well placed light fixtures. The most important thing to remember is make sure that all part of your room are well lit. If you have any darker areas it can make your bathroom appear smaller.

When trying to decide on what curtains your should use on a window consider lace or sheer curtains to allow more light in. If you are worried about privacy then you could have a frosted window installed.

Try using a strip of lights over your main vanity, this will provide great light and give the appearance of more space. I also recommend using canned lighting that is recessed in to the walls and ceiling. This will give a much cleaner appearance but still provide good light in the room.

I hope these small bathroom design ideas have helped you and you can now go one and create the small bathroom of your dreams.

Oct 13th 2010 Small Bathroom Design

Come up with a nice design for a small bathroom space may seem like a daunting task but I want you to know that it is very possible to have a workable, beautiful looking bathroom even if the room is on the small size. You just need to get creative.

The biggest thing to remember about small bathroom design is to use every inch of space that is available to you  but without cluttering up the space so much it feels uncomfortable to be in for any length time.

You need to take some time to consider the bathroom fittings that are right for your smaller space. Don’t just go out and purchase a bathroom suite – many of these will be more suited to a bigger bathroom space and will look funny in the smaller space.

One idea you should consider seriously is a smaller bathroom is a closet bathroom suite. These type of suites have been designed for a small bathroom space. The toilet and basin will form a wedge formation and let them fit nicely in to the corner of your bathroom and using space in the corners that would otherwise go to waste.

The biggest headache when it comes to designing a bathroom is how to deal with the bath. No matter what they always take up a ton of space. If you can’t fit a standard size bath in to the room then the ideal solution is to use a nice modern looking shower unit. This is not an ideal solution but depending on the demographic of the house (younger professionals would be fine with just having a nice shower to use) then it will work ok.

The problem is though if the main bathroom in the house is quite small. You really need to have a bath in there somehow. One option to consider is stealing some space for another room surrounding the bathroom like a bedroom or closet and extending the bathroom a few feet. The downside with this is that it can get expensive very fast when it comes to big renovations such as extending rooms or knocking down walls. Another fairly expensive option is to move the bathroom to another room in the house but these means rerouting pipes and moving fixtures and is not an easy solution either.

The best solution if you can’t fit a standard size bath in to the bathroom is to buy a smaller one. You will probably have a harder time finding these in your local Home Depot or Rona but they can be ordered. These small size baths are usually a little more expensive when compared to the regular size bath but if you compare that to extending your bathroom by knocking down walls then it definitely is worth the money.

As you can hopefully see a small bathroom design is feasible and with some proper planning and preparation you can make the bathroom look great.

Oct 13th 2010 Small Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Are looking for some new ways to remodel your small bathroom? Are you unhappy with the way your bathroom looks right now but feel that your bathroom is too small to do anything with? Then please take a few moments to read this article.

The first step to small bathroom remodeling ideas is to get a few sheets of graph paper together and start sketching out a few of your own ideas. Get your tape measure out and get precise measurements for your bathroom and then try and drawn your bathroom to scale on the graph paper. Make sure you add in all the things you would like to see in your bathroom like a show, bath, towel rack etc, ideally you should draw these items on a separate piece of paper and then cut them out and place them on to your bathroom scale drawing.

Move your bathroom pieces around and try and get a sense of the best fit. Start really thinking about the bathroom you would like to have. You can get a lot of good small bathroom ideas on the internet and if you look at Google images you can see lots of good design ideas including colors used.

Here are a few more small bathroom remodeling ideas:

  • If you have a radiator on the wall consider placing it higher up on the wall – this could mean a new space will be created for your sink or toilet.
  • Consider putting your bath right in the center of the room. This isn’t an ideal situation for most bathrooms but it is an idea you should consider.
  • Think about buying a shaped shower cubicle. You can buy showers these days that have curved sides that will free up more space in your bathroom.
  • Consider installing a sliding door. Removing the need to keep a space behind the door to allow it to open could mean space for a towel rack or storage.
  • Add mirrors to the room to create a larger sense of space.
  • Install storage cupboards high on the walls. This will mean that towels and toiletries won’t be spread all over the sink and floor.

I hope this article has helped you get a better sense of some bathroom remodeling ideas you can use in your own bathroom. All it takes to get the bathroom of your dreams is some good planning before you start the remodeling. Once you have a solid plan in place you will feel confident moving forward with the remodeling.
